Introduction

Before I talk about the advantages of homeschooling, there are a few things that I want to say to parents :

1)  In today's economy and job market, if you are putting food on the table, keeping a roof over your family's head, and treating your children with kindness and love, you are already a success as a parent, in my book. If you don't have the time, energy, or interest right now to read about homeschooling,  that's ok. For most families, the benefits of homeschooling are probably not worth the additional responsibilities.

2)  Deciding to homeschool is a big decision, and you shouldn't rush it. Unless the public schools are causing your child serious unhappiness, move forward at a leisurely pace. Take a year or two to learn about homeschooling, a little bit each week -- maybe ten minutes -- to read something about homeschooling or talk to a homeschooling family. Then, if you eventually decide to begin homeschooling your child(ren), you will be well-prepared, and things will go smoothly for you.

3)  Even if you decide not to homeschool,  learning about homeschooling will help you to see additional options for improving your child's education within the public school system. Also, it will help you and your child to make the important decision of which college to attend and, following that, how to get the most benefit from what college has to offer.
